And yeah, Deep Cover is 100% worth hunting on purpose now. I tested it for a few Endgame sessions after the July 2025 BO7 update, and the game barely tells you anything. I'd clear a normal chain, see a weak yellow circle, then suddenly a crate grabbed me like a Zombies Mimic with extra damage. Look, I know everyone's been beelining the obvious assignment nodes since launch, but that wasn't consistent for me. What worked was staying active in one region and feeding the map events. I ran Toxic Chase, cleaned up a standard assignment, then looped back through the same zone instead of fast rotating out. That's when the hidden stuff started popping more. Could be wrong on the exact spawn math, but higher Combat Rating zones felt way more reliable. Not even close, honestly. In lower-tier areas I had dead runs where I heard nothing and found nothing, so if you're undergeared and forcing it there, you're probably just burning time.

How I find the target

Thing is, you can't play this like waypoint cleanup. Audio matters more than the Tac Map. I noticed the fake props usually gave themselves away with tiny movement or a weird sound tick, and once you tag them they turn into Shifters and try to burst you down fast. Don't stand still. That's the biggest throw I see. These things punish camping hard, and if nearby faction AI is still alive your DPS window gets messy real quick. Most guides recommend sweeping visually, but in my experience the clutter on Avalon makes that mid. I just keep moving, scan for stuff that looks slightly off, then commit.

Why I think people are underrating it

So here's the part that sold me. The rewards don't feel like filler. I got solid Combat Rating bumps, decent currency, and camo progress during the same run, which is more than I can say for some standard contracts right now. In high-threat zones it even felt like the loot table had extra juice, though I'm not 100% sure if that was RNG or hidden scaling. And because the encounter isn't scripted, it stays kinda fresh. One run it's a fast check near vehicles, next run it's buried in random junk and takes forever. That's annoying sometimes, sure, but imo it's way better than sleepwalking from icon to icon.

Stuff I still can't pin down

But I still don't think the community has this fully solved. I haven't tested if squadmates all get equal progress when one person triggers the Shifter, and I still don't know if retreating too far makes it despawn. Also no clue if any perk or equipment secretly highlights these better, because the UI sure isn't helping. If you're farming Endgame seriously, I'd still recommend keeping notes and comparing zones, and for side grinding I ended up checking CoD BO7 Bot Lobby for sale options the same way I ask guildies where they got their setup shortcuts.
